Editing concept

A powerful and easy concept to guide your editing
You will learn

Fundamental theories:

  • Analyizing photos
  • What draws the viewers eye?
  • Subject seperation
    - with colour
    - with light
    - With shadows
    - with contrast
  • Minimalistic Editing. Less = More!
  • Essentially, WHY the edit is done like this

In photo editing, every adjustment—whether it’s a tweak on the slider or a stroke with the mouse—is a decision. These decisions are driven by a belief of what an edit should achieve. My editing concept revolves around three key elements: focus on the subject, mystical lighting, and mood. These principles form the foundation of every edit, creating a cohesive and powerful edit, but flexible enough to be applied to a large variaty of images. All of the foundational priciples that drive my edits combined is what I call 'The Concept'.

This editing concept is highly practical. It’s based on fundamental photographic theories that every photographer should understand. At its core, the concept answers the crucial question: What draws the viewer’s eye? Understanding this allows you to make more confident, decisive edits. Not only will it improve your work, it will also speed up your workflow.

By the end of this session, you'll have a solid understanding of the concept. Even though you haven't learned how to apply it, you can already start to implement it into concept to your own work. Don’t worry about making mistakes—this phase of the learning process is all about experimenting and rediscovering your own editing workflow. This phase will also lead to a lot of questions, and thats good because it means you've put thought into it. All questions will be taken care of in upcoming sessions. With practice, you’ll be able to make this editing concept truly your own.

In editing, every pull on the slider, and every stroke with the mouse is a decision. All these decisions are motivated by a belief of what an edit should be. In my concept, focus on the subject, mystical light, and mood are three key features that you will find within every edit. It's a powerful concept driven by practical reasons. This makes the editing concept easy to understand.

It's very flexible too, it will work on almost any kind of photo because in its core, its based on the most basic photograpical theories that every photographer should know: What draws the eye? Understanding this concept allows you to be more decisive while editing. It sets a clear goal that are easy to approach.

After this session you can allready try to apply the concept to your own work, making mistakes is totally fine because this period offers an incredible opportunity to grasp the concept and make it completely your own.
Session 2
To truely get the most out of your edit, there must be a overlap between your photography- and editing methods. In This session you will learn a set of basic requirememts that your photo's should meet for the edit to be optimal. This will allow you to really push the edit further then you have ever pushed an edit before. Also, it can give you a clue to why your edits weren't working before.

During this session we will talk a lot about how photo's should be taken. Also there will be a moment discuss your progress and questions from the first session. Its really important to grasp the concept before we head into the 3rd and 4th session.

After this episode you should be able to take photo's that will support the style of editing that was conceptualised in the first episode. The period after this session is a great chance to grow some good practice while you take photo's.

To truly unlock the potential of your photo edits, there must be a seamless overlap between your photography and editing techniques. In this session, you'll learn a set of essential requirements your photos should meet to ensure optimal editing results. This knowledge will allow you to take your edits further than ever before and provide insight into why previous edits may not have worked as expected.
